Linbro Park Natural Gas Reticulation for Gas Generators

Introduction:

Developers in Linbro Park, a suburb situated in the Johannesburg region, have embarked with a project to generate electricity using gas-powered plants through Greenstone Energy. This project is a key enabler of further residential development in the area in a electricity constrained system. Greenstone Energy offers private power solutions using various sources, including solar photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind, biomass, and gas-solar hybrid solutions.

Ayogas was appointed by Greenstone Energy to design, supply and install the natural gas reticulation to 12 x industrial gas generators at their Linbro Park premises.

Scope of the Project – Ayogas:

The gas reticulation is installed in phases, and has already been completed for two of the generators. Ayogas employed a professional engineer, draughtsperson and an AIA on the project to support Greenstone Energy in establishing the gas infrastructure for their gas generators. Two of the twelve gas generators have been successfully commissioned within budget and project schedule.

The gas installation consists of the following:

2 x 500MW Gas Generators – supplied by others
150m x 200mm of buried HDPE gas lines – installed by Ayogas
1 x 6″ Filter Header – designed, constructed and installed by Ayogas
Professional Design and AIA (Authorised Inspection Authority)
SANS 329 & SANS 347 compliant system & COC
Testing and commissioning

The outcome:

The first phase of the project was completed on schedule and within budget. The first two gas generators were commissioned successfully. The gas installation has been designed in such a manner to enable the next phases and future expansion without affecting current operations.
